One example : fiber production control. In order to
maximize the productivity of glass fibers of a just few microns
in diameter that are used as plastic reinforcing materials, S.G.R.
researchers design and build systems which check and analyze the
fiber forming process.
These are based on optical and real-time image processing systems.
Among other functions, they help to study the effect of disturbances
on the probability of fiber breakage during production.
