CNRS/Saint-Gobain
laboratory
The "Interfaces and Glass Surface" laboratory, a French
National Research Council (CNRS)/Saint-Gobain joint entity created
in 1990, is located on Saint-Gobain Recherche premises. It is governed
by a specific agreement which divides the research effort into equal
parts between the CNRS
and Saint-Gobain. The current workforce consists of 11 staff (including
8 scientists) and 6 Ph.D. students.
The laboratory principally performs fundamental research (physics,
chemistry, physico-chemistry) on the following themes:
* Aging
- Evolution of the surface and the reactivity of oxide surfaces,
in particular with regard to surface hydroxylation.
- Photo-activity of titanium oxide surfaces.
* Coupling and Surface Mechanics
- Surface and bonding forces
- Tensio-active structuring of silica and glass surface
- Surface damage to glass
- Strengthening of glass surfaces by deposition of organosilanes
- Mechanical behavior of glass wool
* Surface functionalization
- In situ monitoring of thin metal films on oxide substrates
- Synthesis of mesoporous silica deposited on glass
- Grafting of polymers on glass
