Flat screens

The world's televisions accounts for more than one billion cathode ray tubes. These are gradually being replaced by flat screens which use new technologies, such as plasma screens or field effect screens, and as such represent a significant potential market for the glass industry as a whole.
Saint-Gobain contributes to the development of these new technologies by supplying the glass substrate which is an essential component of the screen and supports all the functional parts of the emitting panel. Saint-Gobain Recherche has conducted new research covering both the development of processes for producing special glass and the study of the substrate's physical properties.
These studies have led to new product developments in response to very detailed specifications, similar to those encountered in the micro-electronics industry, itself well known for its fast response times, and high quality.
