MELTING PROCESS RESEARCH

Activities

As a member of the main Research Center of Saint-Gobain group, the candidate will be in charge of research studies dedicated to glass melting. In a team of fifteen people, his main mission will be to prepare and follow melting trials performed on continuous flow pilot furnaces working on the same way as industrial Saint-Gobain installations. The objectives of the trails are either to evaluate the melting ability of new glass formulations, or to develop new innovative glass melting processes. This provides the opportunity to be involved in developments dealing with both chemistry of materials and melting process.

To achieve this mission, the candidate will be responsible of the whole research process : preparation of the pilot trials (bibliographic study, laboratory trials), assistance to the pilot trials performed by technicians, and interpretation of the results. The management of technicians is included in the mission.

The melting trials on such pilot furnaces are the result of the team work in which the new research engineer will have to play an active role. He should have a strong interest for experimentation and innovation, rigor and observation skills. Good abilities in oral and written communication (French and English) are required.

Desired profile

The candidate should have a major in chemical engineering and a PhD.

A first experience in a field using continuous flow high temperature process is an advantage.

A background in fluid mechanics and thermic is welcome.
