"After having completed my general engineering studies at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France), I undertook a professional master's degree in optical instrumentation. I then did a six month internship in the O2M (Optics, Metrology and Mathematics) department which then recruited me. I work in an environment that combines stringent industrial requirements with the open-minded approach needed in a research centre. Indeed, I work in a department that designs and manufactures measurement systems used by various Saint-Gobain manufacturing units. My job means that I am involved in every stage in a project: Identifying the measurement method to be used and the technological resources required, electronic, computer and mechanical design, and finally, production and installation of the equipment in the plant.
To carry out my job, I rely on the other members at the center: optical specialists, engineering office, optical technicians, and so on. To meet the objectives of certain projects, I sometimes also have to set up small teams, bringing in consultants for example.
In this way, I am doing what I decided I wanted to do as soon as I started studying in a general engineering school, namely, exercise a diversified and motivating profession in a large R&D center." |
