Electronic structure calculation for the design of new materials

The aim with the workshop was to unite scientists from industrial materials research within Saint-Gobain with academica to identify the possibilities of electronics structure calculations within industrial research.

About 40 participants were gathered together for a very lively and stimulating work-shop. An expert panel from the European Facility on Theoretical Spectroscopy presented the current status of the field. Afterwards exchange was kickstarted through two presentations on current challenges in two important fields of materials science as well as a poster session. The session ended with a round table summing up on the presented problems as well as a discussion of possible barriers for exchange and how future collaboration could be organised.
